An atheist, engineer, husband and a son. I am a relatively private individual. I was born and raised in Chennai, India. I was a regular 90’s kid and was really lucky to have grown up during a time when technology was booming. I was always interested in the physical sciences. Most Indian parents wanted their child to either be an Engineer or a Doctor. And mine were no different. In my high school, I choose the Science + Math stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Math), not because I wanted to become a doctor but I genuinely was interested in it (also because I thought I had a choice). Fast-forward 2 years, there I was, studying Mechanical Engineering in Chennai. I was secretly ambitious the 4 years that I was in college. I was constantly trying to find inspiration and motivation to always do something different. In reality, nothing ever materialized.
The next 2 years were rollercoaster rides. 4 months in EAI where I was tele-marketing to promote business development in green energy sector. 3 months in Tata Consultancy Services. Though I only completed the initial training program, it was here I got familiarized to computing and programming. Then I moved on to Hinduja Foundries only to work there for 2 months before which I had to quit because of the hazardous working conditions and the lack of professionalism in the management. My final breakthrough was at ETK International Ferrites Pvt LTD. Thanks to my university Prof. Sudharsan.
During the course of 1 year handling projects end-to-end, I learnt a good deal of engineering and real insights into the engineering process. I even got to look at rockets up close at ISRO’s Sriharikota facility. Plenty of visits to IIT Madras made me keep the association with academics intact. It was during this phase of my life, that I seriously started considering to pursue my master’s degree. After several months of studying graduate level math, English, preparing of GRE & IELTS and several applications to universities, I was offered a fully funded course at the Polytechnic University of Milan. It was the most exciting feeling ever felt till that point in my life. I don’t know, even now, if I was deserving enough. But that’s another topic. Left India in September 2014 and took almost 3 years to finish my master’s degree. Several trips and memorable moments.
Soon after my graduation in October 2017, I found myself a job at Empirix Italy S.R.L as a Data Analyst Engineer. (Thanks to my thesis/publication on machine learning and smart meter analytics). I knew securing a job was a milestone in life, but I wasn’t ready for the obvious next stage. I am referring to marriage. I am going to keep my personal story, well, personal. But I should say that meeting Hema was one of the most beautiful experiences ever. I am really happy that she is in my life.
